How to get the most out of video in 2017

2016 was a big year for videos and 2017 will be even bigger! More and more companies are producing videos and it shows. Whether on TV, social networks like Facebook and Twitter, or on new channels like Instagram and Snapchat, video is everywhere!

Companies use video for a variety of reasons – To better connect their brand with consumers and develop closer relationships, to connect consumers with company spokespeople, or to advertise new products and promotions. Whatever the reason is, here are a few helpful tips to remember:

1. Tell A Story

Every video should have a story. Stories connect with people on a personal level and spur an emotional response. This is so important in video advertising! A few ways to make sure you are telling a good story are:

  • Make it memorable
  • Use the right storyteller (actor or narrator)
  • Have a beginning, middle, and an end

2. The Right Team

It’s O.K. if video isn’t your area of expertise. There are plenty of highly trained and experienced video production professionals that can help you produce a quality video product. An important thing to keep in mind is how long they have been in the industry. While video has changed a lot over the years, a lot has stayed the same! Make sure you get plenty of samples of work to be confident that the team you hire can produce the level of quality your brand needs.

3. The Right Place

Once you have decided on the story to tell and have hired the right team to tell it, you need to decide where you will show your videos. Identifying your target audience is the first step. From there you need to figure out where they are most likely to see your video. It is also important to know the types of videos that work in different places. Instagram, for example, is perfect for short videos that pack a lot into 10-15 seconds. On Facebook, however, users are more open to watching a longer video – Something like 1-2 minutes. Hint: If your target audience is 20-25 years old, they are definitely on Snapchat!
